What is Counselling & how can it help me?

Counselling is a therapy that helps people to manage and regain control of their life when things seem too hard to handle. It can help by allowing you to explore the difficulties in a realistic way and break down those overwhelming problems into smaller parts that can be solved.

It can help clear the confusion and give you new skills to help yourself. Sometimes it just helps to have someone to talk to who is outside of your normal circle of family and friends.

Medicare Rebate

The Australian Government's Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative allows a large proportion of the counselling costs with a psychologist to be rebated through Medicare. This requires an appropriate referral and needs to be organised through your medical doctor. There will still be a gap payment after the rebate to be covered by the client.

Practice Philosophy

Counselling is always a difficult process to begin as people are often nervous about having to talk to someone about their personal concerns. Alan provides an understanding and non judgmental approach which allows people to feel comfortable to discuss their current position. Alan uses an open, honest approach to encourage his clients to clarify, break down, understand and manage any confusion they may have. The main objective of counselling is to promote inner strength and personal empowerment through a variety of different therapy models and techniques.
